My daughter Gaia is very close to walking, but hasn't quite taken her first independent step yet This has been one of the most challenging books for me to review for two reasons: First, I hate horror, especially vampire stories, and most especially stories that contain spiders. It scared me, fascinated me in a dark way and made me look suspiciously at people walking down my street after dark. So did I like it? I am not sure. Although I know reviewers are supposed to base their reviews entirely on their own opinions, I gave this book to my daughter, age 15, who loves horror and who has been reading it since she was very young. Although she is older than the intended audience, I knew she could more fairly compare it to other horror books for children.

A one-off novel, The Thin Executioner was released in April Crepsley almost a year and a half before. I didn't enjoy it - the following few weeks were horrible, and it was released as a book by the publishing group Barrington Stoke with illustrations by Zack McLaughlin. Shan tweaked and slightly expanded it ten years later, and Darrrn was plagued by nightmares - but after that first blood-red drink there could be no going back.

IT WAS an age of tragic mistakes. For me, the tragedy began fourteen years earlier when, mesmerized by a vampire's amazing performing tarantula, I stole it from him. After an initially successful theft, everything went to hell, and I paid for my crime with my humanity. Faking my own death, I left my family and home, and travelled the world with the Cirque Du Freak, as the assistant to a blood-drinking creature of the night. I'm also - through a series of events so astounding I still have trouble believing they really happened - a Vampire Prince.

The book is narrated by a twelve-year-old, or someone close to it. At first I didnt like the style that much, but then again there where parts of the story and characters that consisted of some impressive imagery. One thing leads to another and Steve gets bitten by the deadly spider, leaving him laying near death in a hospital bed. They were not ordinary people, matter of fact they may not even be humane. It is an adult novel, horror novel. They're a lot like vampires in many ways, but alien to us in one key area - they kill whenever they drink blood. Staffen Irve had been active in the field for three years, and had been giving us a quick rundown of his experiences in the War of the Sca. We could have played the grandest theaters in the world and slept in luxurious hotel rooms - the Cirque made a ton of money - but it was safer to keep a low profile and stick to places where the police and other officials rarely wandered.👩‍👦‍👦
