I want people working for me who act like they own the place. A friend handed me Self Leadership and the One Minute Manager a couple years ago and told me it had made a huge difference in his career. My friend was a highly effective regional manager for a national company and he had maintained several successful personal businesses on the side. If it made such a difference for him, I was interested. I started reading it.

Certainly, you need matching leadership styles S1 to S4 in terms of direction and support. This is a great book. Based on where you are in the development continuum, you can get stronger results from people by taking the time to think about and understand where they are coming from and how they best handle and react to different situations. This self leadership model in particular is a slight retooling of Hersey and Blanchard's Situational Theory of Leadership designed to be taught to non-managers so they can self-diagnose their own readiness level.

    Businesses and organizations work against time nowadays. The faster they get, the successful they become. This statement makes us understand that, in organizational culture, no one is going to spend huge amounts of time on you so that you can succeed in the concrete jungle. The book is a beautiful reminder of the harsh reality that time waits for no one and especially in the organizational culture where the stakes are so high that mere seconds can result in a loss of billions. 👧
