Leon He is exceptional and wwoods an amazing job with the character voices. I still must rate according to my own appreciation of the book? This book was just as informative and hilarious the second time around.

I kind of surprised I liked this book at allbecause: a I read pathetically little non-fiction b I've never read a travelogue AND c I'm only a fan of the Great Outdoors as long as I'm safely Indoors.

I know I will never do this for real so this is next best. A realists view into hiking long distance A wonderful journey through the trials of amature hiking through some of the most difficult and varied conditions of the Appalachian Trail. As Bryce notes, the trail was quite empty in the 50s and 60s; we rarely encountered other families and only an occasional 'hiker' on our weekend walks Easy listening that made my journeys to work more enjoyable!

The Appalachian Trail trail stretches from Georgia to Maine and covers some of the most breathtaking terrain in America—majestic mountains, silent forests, sparking lakes. I honestly don't know anyone else who could discuss the concept of continental plates colliding and drawing apart and make it profoundly interesting: Something over a billion years ago, his lessons rarely become preachy. Loved his narration of "At Home". Part Two of the book might as well be skipped. Bryson's descriptions are able to pick out the most interesting details of places and people which entertain the listener throughout and his criticism of everything wrong with the US attitude to the environment also struck a cord with me. There was no growth shown in either of the 'characters' which dominated the book.

    His friend is quite a character, not in a slap stick way, and I sort of wonder if he is a real person. It is FUNNY, and it never fails to put a smile on my. I pick up new things in it in each read. Bryso manner of writing is easy and flowing.
